Understanding why tech workers haven’t united

When we send our tech jobs to other countries, it decreases tech jobs here in America.

When we import non-immigrant guest workers to take our tech jobs, it decreases tech jobs here in America.

There are many who believe we have tech jobs going unfilled and that there are plenty of jobs out there if you want to work.

At the same time, there are many like myself who say they have the skills our employers are asking for, and all of them are saying they can’t find work.

To understand how this is possible, we need to look at how many computer and mathematical jobs we have created each year between 2010 and 2018, and we find that we have created a total of 1,100,350 jobs.

And we have had 2,776,839 H-1B Applications for those jobs as I show here.

It is very obvious once you understand this, that we are not creating enough jobs for our skilled workers here in America, and if even 50% of those H-1B applications are approved, we still are forcing American citizens out of work as it is our employers that are importing those non-immigrant guest workers to fill jobs here in America.

Once you understand this, you have to ask yourself, why aren’t tech workers united and mad as hell?

To understand that, you need to know how many tech workers there are in America as compared to all of the other jobs out there.

That orange slice is computer and mathematical jobs. It accounted for 3.1% of our total workforce in 2019.

The green slice is our architecture and engineering jobs. It accounted for 1.8% of our total workforce in 2019.

If these people getting forced out of those jobs are lucky, they may find other jobs, but none that pay what they were getting paid.

In my own case, even though I have the skills to do the job, I have been unable to find work in other fields, possibly because I never got a degree.

In most cases, I have heard you won’t stay when times get better, or you’re overqualified.

Which has left me struggling for the last 17 years, so I get your pain if you are going through what I’m going through.

But as for why American tech workers aren’t supported by the remaining 95% of workers in America, we need to understand which occupational groups account for the majority of jobs in America and it is easy to see that about 60% of our jobs in America are jobs that pay about 1/3rd of what tech jobs paid or about 30,000 per year on average.

So how do we get them to understand what is happening to American tech workers?

I believe it is by showing them that at an increasing rate, it is happening in their jobs as well.

That is why I have developed my various websites so that I can show them what is happening.

As you can see, the amount of H-1B Applications are increasing for all jobs.

Do you now understand why I spend my time trying to show what is happening?

Think about this for a second.

We create about 2 1/2 million new jobs each year on average as I show here.

And we receive about 600,000 H-1B applications each year.

And we issued about 700,00 NAFTA visas each year.

This does not even include all the other non-immigrant guest worker visas like the L-1, B-1, OPT, etc. and just in those two visas, it already accounts for about 50% of all jobs created each year here in America.

Like everybody in the software arena, I’ve been seeking answers to why I can’t get hired no more, and the answer is painfully obvious.

NAICS 54 is defined as:

  • Advertising and Related Services: NAICS 5418
  • Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services: NAICS 5419


So, let us expand our search to 5415

All of this information has been taken from the FY 2020 H-1B application data.

This means we had 166,499 H-1B applications for these Computer Systems Design and Related Services type jobs.

The problem is, this is H-1B applications only and all applications do not necessarily get approved, so we need to look at the H-1B Approval Data for 2019 as all of 2020 is not yet in.

Doing that, we see that 157,322 did get approved for initial approvals and continuing renewals.

The problem is, the Approval data only uses a 2 digit NAICS number.

If we rerun our query using only 54 instead of the 5415, we now find that we actually had 239,976 H-1B Applications for NAICS 54

Now we need to find out how many jobs were created in 2019 as compared to 2018.

Doing that, we see that we had 2233.6 in Dec 2019 and we had 2155.5 in Dec 2018.

This means we created 78,100 jobs since these numbers are in thousands.

Yet we approved 157,322 H-1B initial approvals and continuing approvals.

Leaving Americans like myself begging for work.

Something has to give.

I believe it is the non-immigrant guest worker visas.

I believe American citizens will agree as well as their families are dependent on jobs as Americans in America.

Isn’t it time that we did this?

CEOs from 160 top companies have demanded that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio address public safety and fix ‘quality of life issues’ that have left the Big Apple struggling to recover from one of the harshest lockdowns in the country. 

Chief executives from companies Lyft, Macy’s, Goldman Sachs and more signed the letter to de Blasio calling for the city to ‘remain a thriving global center of commerce, innovation and opportunity’ as it battles a slow reopening, rising crime, growing homelessness and sanitation problems amid the pandemic. 

Despite New York having an infection rate below one per cent for more than 30 days, the CEOs said there was widespread anxiety over public safety, cleanliness and other quality of life issues that are contributing to deteriorating conditions in commercial districts and neighborhoods across the five boroughs.’ 


As somebody that has their “Quality of Life” destroyed over the last 17 years, I can tell you that you can’t have a quality life if you can’t find decent paying work.

Do you think if you were given the opportunity to work your way up into those positions that you might be able to build a better quality of life for your family?

I think those business owners need to look in the mirror and ask themselves, am I really the one that is destroying the quality of life for the people in the town I operate in?

Are others doing the same?

How exactly do I expect my neighbors to do better when I force them into homelessness by denying them the opportunity to even pay their bills?
